Vasek Pospisil was one of the biggest stories of the Indian Wells fortnight this year, stunning Andy Murray in the second round to not only score his first career win over a World No.1, but to completely shake up the draw - Murray was, of course, on the opposite side of the draw from the ‘Quarter of Death’ that housed the rest of the Big Four, so most people assumed Murray was safe until the final.
But Pospisil came good that night and we were all reminded of the talents that have taken him to the Wimbledon quarterfinals and No.25 in the world - could this be the beginning of his revival?
Speaking of beginnings, last month - right before Indian Wells - Pospisil launched his YouTube vlog, which is called Bounce w/Vasek Pospisil. And if you haven’t checked it out yet, we at Tennis Channel highly recommend that you do. Not only will the Canadian give you a glimpse of what life is like behind the scenes on the professional tennis tour, he’ll also make you laugh along the way.
Watch Episode 5, “First Hit @ Indian Wells”, below. Highlight comes at 3:15 - “So it’s just gonna be a light hit, not much craziness going on, and uh… I’m talking to myself - just hit an all-time low.”
And here’s Episode 7, “Singing LIVE for the First Time”, where you can watch him show off some of his off-court talents alongside Canadian country music up-and-comer Madeline Merlo.
He’s not the first tennis player to vlog - who could forget Andrea Petkovic’s Petkorazzi vlog, and Sam Groth and Nicole Gibbs have been bringing us around the world with them in My Tennis Life, and Sloane Stephens has been upping her TV presenting game (watch her go undercover here).
It looks like tennis player vlogging is undergoing a revival - and we’ll keep you posted on all of it.
