At this year’s Miami Open, this happened:
Almost immediately the news - and video - of an iguana charging across a tennis court at the Miami Open started spreading like wildfire online. Tommy Haas even took a selfie with the iguana.
“It was fun. I thought that’s an interesting picture to take,” Haas told atpworldtour.com. I don’t think it’ll ever happen again, to be honest, especially in my career, because it’s almost over anyway.
“It’s nice for him to stop by. Good-looking iguana.”
But the iguana wasn’t the first video of something that happened during a tennis match to spread online - in fact, it wasn’t even the first from the Miami Open. There was this tremendous Agnieszka Radwanska hot shot from four years ago, which currently has almost 4 million views on YouTube:
And nine years ago, also in Miami, there was this from Mikhail Youzhny after missing a backhand down 5-4 third set - 500,000 views within 24 hours, currently at 1.9 million. He won the match, too:
