The battle for the year-end world number one begins as Novak Djokovic of Serbia and Andy Murray of Great Britain play their first round matches at the ATP Paris Masters on Wednesday, November 2, 2017.

World number 1 Djokovic, who hasn’t had a stellar later part of the season, will try to hold on to the coveted spot that he has held since July 2014. Murray, on the other hand, is riding on a 15-match winning streak having won three consecutive titles in Beijing, Shanghai, and Vienna.
Top seed Djokovic kicks off his campaign against left-hander Gilles Muller of Luxembourg. Muller won’t go down without a fight, but Djokovic will be on a mission to retain his place at the top of the pack. He leads Muller 3-0 in their head-to-head.
Second seed Murray plays against Fernando Verdasco of Spain, another left-hander. Murray’s mission is to dethrone Djokovic, so he will have his eyes on the prize. He leads their head-to-head 11-1.
Djokovic will need reach the final in order to hold onto the top spot, and Murray needs to win the title to become the world number 1.
