Sock, Wawrinka, Pliskova Advance in Indian Wells

INDIAN WELLS, Calif -- Jack Sock, Stan Wawrinka, and Karolina Pliskova rounded out the day with wins at the BNP Paribas Open on Wednesday.

Sock came from a set down to win the match 4-6, 7-6(1), 7-5 over Malek Jaziri. The American nearly went home in his third round match as he saved four match points against Grigor Dimitrov.

Sock is in great form, making four quarterfinal appearances in a row and winning Brisbane in January and Del Rey Beach in February.

"I mean, been a good finish to the year last year in the fall, and then a great offseason for me," said Sock after his match.

"Changed it up a little bit, but, yeah, started out this year with a lot of confidence, physically, mentally, all of it. I think it's shown on court so far this year.'

He next plays Nishikori, who beat Donald Young 6-2, 6-4.

Like Sock, Wawrinka came from a set down and trailed in the third set before taking the match 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(4) against Yoshihito Nishioka . In the third set, The Swiss was down a break 5-6 but broke back and then took control of the tiebreak.

Wawrinka next plays the winner of Dominic Thiem and Gael Monfils.

In a match that looked like a straightforward win for Pliskova, things got a little complicated towards the end, but order was eventually restored. The No. 3 seed and Garbine Muguruza traded breaks three times and the set was sent to a tiebreak, where Pliskova won 7 points versus the Spaniard's 2 points.

Up 5-2 and serving for the match in the second set, the Czech was broken by the Spaniard, who then held serve, bringing the score to 5-4. Again, Pliskova served for the match and held two match points but was denied by relentless Muguruza, leveling the score to 5-5.

Both women then held their serves, pushing it to the second tiebreak. They traded several breaks in the breaker. At 5-6, Muguruza double-faulted, handing Pliskova the match.

Pliskova next faces Svetlana Kuznetsova in the semifinals. The Russian defeated compatriot Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-3, 6-2 in an earlier quarterfinal match.

The bottom half of the draw will play tomorrow. Venus Williams faces Elina Vesnina while Caroline Wozniacki meets Kristina Mladenovic.
