INDIAN WELLS, Calif -- Frenchwoman Kristina Mladenovic is through to the fourth round after upsetting 2015 champion Simona Halep in the third round of the BNP Paribas Open on Monday.
Mladenovic, who won her maiden title in St. Petersburg last month, stunned the fourth seed with a 6-3, 6-3 win.
The 28th seed came out blazing, overwhelming the Romanian from the get go.
"I think I played obviously a great match, because you don't beat a Top 5 player just like that," the Frenchwoman stated during her post-match presser. "I felt the conditions were extremely difficult for both of us. I could feel that -- mean, I don't know. 36 degrees, I think, that was pretty solid for playing tennis.
2017 is one of Mladenovic's best seasons as a singles player by far, and it so happens she playing without a coach this season.
"I just think I'm the best coach for myself so far for now," she said candidly. "Without acoach, I think it's working really well for me at the moment.
"So I think I know myself the best. I think I know what things and what I have to work. I have a big teamaround me, still. My fitness coach is there, my hitting partner is there, my physio, my mom is there, family is there."
Mladenovic next faces Lauren Davis, who crushed Julia Goerges 6-1, 6-4.
