INDIAN WELLS, Calif -- Johanna Konta is through to the third round of BNP Paribas Open after a straight sets win over compatriot Heather Watson. 11th seed Konta took the match 6-4, 6-4.
"It was tricky. It's never easy playing someone from your own country," said Konta during her post-match interview on Tennis Channel Live. "So we actually spent quite a bit of time together not long ago at Fed Cup so to be up against each other on the court is a different dynamic but I enjoyed my first match out there, hopefully will try to prolong my stay as long as possible."
Konta awaits the winner of Caroline Garcia and Evgeniya Rodina.
