INDIAN WELLS, Calif -- 20-year-old Karen Khachanov is through to the second round match after a straight-sets win against veteran Tommy Robredo at the BNP Paribas Open on Thursday.
Khachanov, who won the match 6-1, 7-5, had a good serving day.
"I was serving well and was having a lot of points, free points with my serve," said the tall Russian in post match interview with Tennis Channel Digital. "And also on the baseline I was playing aggressive."
Khachanov is one of the young players who are quickly climbing up the rankings.
"I worked a lot with my team so we've done a lot of work that's why I'm now 50 in the world.
"I don't want to put any short goals. I just want to be the best so I have to work to be the best. So I don't like to put any goals. I think you can be working and then at the end of the year you will see your real ranking that you deserve."
He next faces 11th seed David Goffin, who has a first-round bye. This will be the two's first meeting.
"I think it's gonna be a nice match for me. Nice experience to play against top player," said Khachanov.
