Indian Wells: Today's Notable Matches

INDIAN WELLS, Calif --Since all the first round matches have concluded, the seeded players will kick-off their BNP Paribas Open campaigns starting today. Here are notable matches around the grounds.

1. Brits Johanna Konta and Heather Watson kick things off on Stadium 1 at 11 am. Konta, who had a breakthrough in 2016, is seeded 11th. Konta leads their head-to-head 1-0. It's hard to believe that this is the 11th seed's second main draw appearance in Indian Wells .

2. Seventh-seed Garbine Muguruza meets Kirsten Flipkens. French Open champion Muguruza will make her fifth appearance at the desert. Since winning Beijing in 2015, the Spaniard has not made a Premier Mandatory quarterfinal. The two have split four matches 2-2.

3. U.S. Open finalist Karolina Pliskova v Olympic gold medalist Monica Puig. Both these women had a wonderful 2016 with Pliskova beating top seed Serena Williams in the semifinals of the U.S. Open, while Puig had a Cinderella run at the Rio Olympics. The Czech leads Puig 3-0 in their head-to-head.

4. Dominika Cibulkova faces Jelena Ostapenko. Fifth seed Cibulkova reached her highest ranking of No. 5 in October of 2016. This is her ninth appearance in Indian Wells. Her best results here were her quarterfinal run in 2014. Ostapenko is making her first appearance here.

5. 2013 champion Rafael Nadal and defending champ Novak Djokovic to face-off in the doubles. Nadal is pairing with Bernard Tomic in the men's doubles. They play defending singles champion Novak Djokovic and Viktor Troicki in the second night match on Stadium 1.

6. Top seed Andy Murray in the doubles too. Murray and compatriot Dan Evans plays Spaniards Feliciano Lopez and Marc Lopez.
