INDIAN WELLS, Calif --- Qualifier Vasek Posposil created the biggest storyline of the 2017 BNP Paribas Open when he stunned top seed Andy Murray in the second round on Saturday. Yesterday it was business as usual as top players such as Roger Federer, defending champion Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal kept the 'upset bug' at bay.
Here are some of today's storylines:
1. 4. Will Vasek Pospisil avoid a let-down after his big win? -- It's normal to see players have a big letdown after scoring big upsets. Pospisil did not expect to go past the second round of this tournament, so it will be interesting to see how he performs against fellow qualifier Dusan Lajovic.
2. Will Venus Williams avoid another slow start? -- After saving three match points in her second round match against Jelena Jankovic on Saturday, Williams will aim to hit the ground running against Lucie Safarova today. The Czech is a dangerous player, so this will be a high-level contest. These two are familiar with each other's game as they have played six times, with Williams leading their head-to-head 4-2.
3. Rafael Nadal/Bernard Tomic continue their doubles run -- A lot of people are baffled by this union but so far, these two seem to have some sort of chemistry on the court. They're up against a tough team today in the form of Raven Klaasen and Rajeev Ram but either way, it will be interesting to see Nadal and Tomic interact on Stadium two.
4. Will this be another John Isner match that is decided by tie-breaks? -- Isner is playing Gael Monfils and chances are the match will be decided by tie-breaks as we have seen in many of Isner's matches including his second round match against Mikhail Kukushkin, where he survived two tie-breaks.
