INDIAN WELLS, Calif -- 2012 BNP Paribas Open champion Roger Federer raced past Stephane Robert to reach the third round of the BNP Paribas Open on Sunday.
The reigning Australian Open champion only needed 28 minutes to take the first set 6-2. He immediately broke in the first game of the second set to go up 1-0. He held easily to go up 2-0 and never let Robert into the match as he raced to the finish line to take the match 6-2, 6-1.
Federer plays American Steve Johnson, who took out big server Kevin Anderson in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(4).
Should the Swiss pass the Johnson test, he will then face the winner of Rafael Nadal and Fernando Verdasco.
