Defending Champ Halep Rallies Past Vinci in Madrid

MADRID, Spain -- Trailing 5-2 in the decider, defending champion Simona Halep rallied past Roberta Vinci to advance to the third round of the Mutua Madrid Open with a 6-2, 2-6, 7-6(2) win on Tuesday.

In other women's matches, Coco Vandeweghe took out Stuttgart winner Laura Siegemund 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. Misaki Doi, who upset Madison Keys in the first round, took out Donna Vekic in straights 6-1, 6-2.

Wild Card Sorana Cirstea, who stunned AAnastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the opener, defeated rising star CiCi Bellis 6-3, 6-2.
