This week feels like it has gone on forever. After flying back to Melbourne it was SO good to be back in my new house with Britt.
The last month had been a tough one, with a lot on my mind. I had done a lot of thinking and spoken to a lot of people close to meet about how I was feeling about my tennis, and I guess my life in general.
Once I got back to Australia my mind was made up and on Tuesday I organised to meet Leo Schlink from "The Herald Sun." By the afternoon there was a story published online that I would be retiring from tennis after the Australian Open in January.
It wasn’t a decision that I took lightly and it will bring a close to such an enormous chapter in my life. Over the coming weeks I can hopefully piece together what that transition will look like for me.
After the announcement, I started to make a lot of calls and speak with people who I thought could help me with ideas and direction for the future. For me, moving into work with the media, hopefully in tv and radio, has been something I’ve been looking to do for the last few years.
The rest of the week it was pretty chilled. On Wednesday I got out and played golf, Thursday we went to a screening of the new Thor movie with friends. On Saturday, we took a drive out into the country to visit the puppy that Britt surprised me with for my birthday. It’s only about three weeks old and we can’t take it home until late November - it is very cute.
Sunday, we babysat my niece for the first time, before my sister and her husband joined us for dinner.
Next week I’ll get back into training while still working out what will come after tennis. It’s a long time still until the Aus Open, but with it being my last, I want to make sure I’m fired up and ready to go!!!
