Player party in Budapest tonight... with a boat cruise along the Danube!

Blog: Sam Groth's European Tour Continues in Estoril

Hi all,

This week started with a doubles win in Budapest. For me, after I've lost in singles, it's good that I can get back on the match court and play doubles - it gives me more match play, helps me build some confidence and also work on some things I'm trying to improve for my singles. Unfortunately, we lost in the quarterfinals in a super tiebreak third set, but we went unbroken for the match and moving forward if we play like that, we will get a lot of wins in matches like that.

Tuesday night was the player party, which was a boat cruise along the Danube. Budapest surprised me and was a really beautiful city, and the chance to take the boat and see it at night was amazing.

This was the first full week I've spent with my new coach, Billy, and we started to work on a few changes. For me, this clay court season is about trying to build my game up again, implementing some changes, and getting to where we feel like I should be. If I could win some more singles matches along the way that is an added bonus.

Now I'm in Estoril, where I'm the top seed in the doubles along with Robert. Estoril is very beautiful, on the Portuguese coast overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The player dinner was held at the residence of the ambassador of Malta, which is an old castle on the coast built in the 1500's. As tennis players, we are incredibly lucky to have the experiences we have, and even though my singles game hasn't been where I want it, it is things like this that make me realize how lucky I am to be doing what I do.

I'll make sure to keep you all updated during the week, and if anyone has any questions or things you would like to see along this journey, I hope you will reach out and I'll see what I can do.

Sam
