US Open Day 1: Halep, Konta Upset; Former Champs Sharapova and Williams Advance

The 2017 edition of the US Open kicked off on Monday and there was no shortage of drama as day one saw the women's No. 2 and No. 7 seeds make bow out. Simona Halep and Johanna Konta made their exits after respective three-set losses, while former champs Venus Williams and Maria Sharapova advanced. On the men's side, American Jack Sock was handed his exit papers by young Aussie Jordan Thompson, while John Isner punched his ticket to the next round.
