  • Re: What's Up With A-Rod???

The surface of the court didn't help Andy any. This is a slow hard court designed to ensure balance between the clay court and faster surface players. Andy's serve and forehand aren't so penetrating as they are on a faster surface. Andy has never won this title for that very reason. Roddick's pretty much a one-dimensional player. When his service percentage

  • Re: What is up with Roddick Lately

I agree with Jenkins' article. Roddick went through the juniors and the early part of his professional career with essentially a one-dimensional game. Now that players are learning to block his serve instead of swinging at it and attacking his forehand when he lets that side of the court open, he's not getting the amount of cheap points that he counted

Roddick's problem is likely in his game, not his personal life. His backhand isn't a liability but it's not a great asset either. The players (Lubicic, Gasquet, Haas, Safin ) who are making the strongest impression against Federer are those who have better backhands who can take advantage of Roger's tendency in leaving his forehand side open and attack

  • Re: Would you watch doubles?

If you can derive some satisfaction out of today's doubles, good for you. The ATP as well as the WTA would like your numbers to increase. Obviously from the attempts made by the ATP to lure singles players says a lot about the appeal of today's doubles. The game is in trouble. Excluding a few named doubles teams like the Bryans there are mostly empty

No, I wouldn’t watch it. Conversely, the new scoring system is a bad idea. It won’t produce the desired results which is to draw more big name singles players into the competition. The problem I have with doubles is that it’s unwatchable. Much of the game is all about power that the art of the volley is lacking in the modern game. On the women’s side

  • Re: Elena Dementieva

I don't think that America's enemies are found on the WTA tour. If anything, the Russian players represent the rising class of free market capitalists in their own country. As far as our own women tennis players, I think that tennis in our country is in trouble. It has gone down in stature with the rise of so many sports, even just among women athletes

  • Re: MOST HATED PLAYER

Men--I'd have to say Leyton Hewitt is the least liked on the court. His "come on!" in response to an opponent's error has made him not too popular among his peers, just ask Juan Ignacio Chela who spat in his direction this past year on court. Women--Even though I find her the most watchable female player, Justin Henin-Hardenne often employs injury timeouts

  • Re: Bjorn Borg Saga

I'd say that Borg's early retirement was probably one of the worst things to happen to professional tennis because it ended prematurely probably the greatest era that the sport has seen. Even though his main rivals would continue against each other and against newer arrivals to the scene, his retirement left a big void. Imagine Larry Bird retiring after

  • Re: A True Story from Wimbledon

If one of the Williams sisters were to have played Vera or her opponent in an upcoming round, I can understand Richard Williams wanting to scout out the opposition. It's probably typical of some of the top players' coaches to insist and be given preferential treatment in the manner you describe. I can see Yuri Sharapova or Peter Graf in the past getting

  • Re: Roddick v. Johansson

It's scheduled to be played at 2:00 pm in England, the first match of the day. That's 6:00am pacific or 3:00am atlantic. It will be played on the same court as the women's final. You'll probably miss an hour of it.
