The Wimbledon seedings were announced today. The top 8 seeds for the "Gentlemen" are: Federer, Nadal, Roddick, Nalbandian, Ljubicic, Hewitt, Ancic, and Blake. Roddick, Hewitt and Ancic got higher seeds than their rankings due to past performance on grass. Former champ Agassi is seeded 26th. Unseeded and potentially dangerous floaters are Henman, Gasquet and Safin (Safin has not been shy about how much he hates playing on grass so he may not prove to be so dangerous after all).
The "Ladies's" top 8 seeds are: Mauresmo, Clijsters, Henin, Sharapova, Petrova, Kuznetsova, Williams and Dementieva. Except for Williams, who got a higher seeding than ranking due to her win last year, the seeds are the same as the rankings for the top 8 women. In my mind Mauresmo is the least likely to win #1 seed ever. While I believe she has the physical talents to win I don't think she has the mental fortitude to cope with the pressures of being the favorite. Former champ and come-back-kid Hingis is #13.
The draws come out on Friday--it will be interesting to see who plays who.
