I don't hate her at all. That's not to say I'm a huge fan but I can't help but admire her talent and success. She had a rough childhood with her mother dying at a young age and a poor relationship with her father. She has been fighting against the odds her whole life. Same can be said for others like the Williams sisters and Sharapova. Sharapova came from a very poor background, lived in a dorm by herself at a very young age while her mother had to stay behind in Russia and her father worked in a different town. The Williams sisters came from humble beginnings themselves learning to hit dead balls on crappy public courts in Compton. All have fought their way to the top, all have beaten the odds. Most everyone else, including everyone on this board, put in those same circumstances would have gone nowhere. So, because of the struggles they've had I tend to be more forgiving of isolated moments of indiscretion. I have been critical of Serena on this board because I feel her tendency to not take tennis seriously is not isolated, but I would never go so far as to say I "hate" her.
Everyone bows down to Federer as the model of sportsmanship, but to me his whining that Nadal was coached in the Italian final screams of sour grapes and are the rantings of a poor loser. So, nobody is perfect--including you. So the next time you decide to publicly state your hatred for someone else ask yourself how you would have reacted had you grown up in their shoes. But all things tend to even out, I'm sure there are those who hate you too--they just keep it to themselves.
Played out of her mind, nah, she played the bigger points better than everybody, as Kuznetsova couldn't harness her tal;ent, that is waht's so disappointing about that women's final, both players weren't on their best. I really believe if Petrova got on track that she would have clipped Henin in the quarters, oh, i so wish she had not won her third straight as a person who strongly criticizes her gamemanship or gamewomanship.
The tough childhood is no excuse, there are many people in this world and in sports who have had even more difficult childhoods than here, where they haven't seen either parents, but they act in a professional and non egregious manner than she has sometimes done in her career. Still, you have to give her all the credit for her ability to get everything out of her little body because she has five Grand Slam titles (and a Gold medal), just as many as Martina and Venus. And about four of those at the expense of Cijsters, who sadly doesn't know when to turn off the nice stubborness and beat her countrywoman in the big moments.
