I'm new here and I just had to mouth off about her because it makes me sick to see her win again.  I always liked her UNTIL the French open match against Serena with the hand and the mouth staying shut!  I could almost understand that UNTIL the Aussy Open FF in the final.  Aww her poor little tummy hurt her.  She should have stayed home.  Mauresmo deserved to win her first slam for REAL...... she was ROBBED!

It disgusts me to see her win anything.  This is the prime example of a female tennis player we have?  She should be ashamed of herself and her unsportsman-like ways.  I won't even dare to watch any of her matches on tv and if my tickets for the US Open happen to fall on one of her matches my mouth will stay open BOO-ING until they kick me out.

JUSTINE (bee-stings) - do us a favor and crawl under a rock.

Wow..I don't think I have ever witnessed such hatred for such an uncontroversial player.
I actually like Justine. She is one of the best women's clay court players ever. She is consistently modest in her interviews and she seems to be well-liked by her colleagues on the women's circuit. That being said..
I very much dislike the way she retired her match to Mauresmo (even though it could be said with near certainty that had she continued, Mauresmo would have still beaten her the way Amelie was playing); it seemed to have been the prime example of a sore loser. However, she went on afterward to explain that her first priority was listening to her body (pains), even if it was at the unfortunate expense of Amelie achieving her first grand slam title via retirement. Yeah, it sounded a bit like B.S.. to me too, but truth is we just don't know if Henin was in fact injured or if she was just acting.
(Some have criticized that she still could have played some more games, even if she was actually injured. I agree with that too. But then again..that "what if she was really, actually, and in fact in pain?" remains. Is it fair to Henin to go on and play out a match (yes, even if it's a grand slam final) at the expense of her physical health? I don't think it is.
I had a problem with her after that whole fiasco but I won't judge her as a player or a person based on one incident, however major it seemed at the time and now.
To me, she is still the current queen of clay and one of the best players all-time women's players. I enjoy watching her, even though she is no longer one of my favorites, as she once was.
Besides, there are other players who have demonstrated gamesmanship and tactless and obnoxious behavior both on and off the court numerous times (khm..Sharapova?). I say, let's hate on them instead:)

(And let's not compare Justine to Serena. Ms. Williams is not exactly the epitome of class and humility. She has gotten better though over time, thanks to the "coach" she hired to help her with those issues of crassness.)

I don't hate her at all.  That's not to say I'm a huge fan but I can't help but admire her talent and success.  She had a rough childhood with her mother dying at a young age and a poor relationship with her father.  She has been fighting against the odds her whole life.  Same can be said for others like the Williams sisters and Sharapova.  Sharapova came from a very poor background, lived in a dorm by herself at a very young age while her mother had to stay behind in Russia and her father worked in a different town.  The Williams sisters came from humble beginnings themselves learning to hit dead balls on crappy public courts in Compton.  All have fought their way to the top, all have beaten the odds.  Most everyone else, including everyone on this board, put in those same circumstances would have gone nowhere.  So, because of the struggles they've had I tend to be more forgiving of isolated moments of indiscretion.  I have been critical of Serena on this board because I feel her tendency to not take tennis seriously is not isolated, but I would never go so far as to say I "hate" her.

Everyone bows down to Federer as the model of sportsmanship, but to me his whining that Nadal was coached in the Italian final screams of sour grapes and are the rantings of a poor loser.  So, nobody is perfect--including you.  So the next time you decide to publicly state your hatred for someone else ask yourself how you would have reacted had you grown up in their shoes.  But all things tend to even out, I'm sure there are those who hate you too--they just keep it to themselves.

Even though Justine isn't exactly one of my favorite ladies on the professional tennis circuit, she played out of her mind during the French Open, and deserved to win the title.  What is she going to do for an encore?  Do a Sports Illustrated photo shoot?  Not!

Played out of her mind, nah, she played the bigger points better than everybody, as Kuznetsova couldn't harness her tal;ent, that is waht's so disappointing about that women's final, both players weren't on their best. I really believe if Petrova got on track that she would have clipped Henin in the quarters, oh, i so wish she had not won her third straight as a person who strongly criticizes her gamemanship or gamewomanship.

The tough childhood is no excuse, there are many people in this world and in sports who have had even more difficult childhoods than here, where they haven't seen either parents, but they act in a professional and non egregious manner than she has sometimes done in her career. Still, you have to give her all the credit for her ability to get everything out of her little body because she has five Grand Slam titles (and a Gold medal), just as many as Martina and Venus. And about four of those at the expense of Cijsters, who sadly doesn't know when to turn off the nice stubborness and beat her countrywoman in the big moments.
