So what would be equal/fair??

SO what about the next highest paid Men & Womens tour event (MIAMI's Sony Ericssons Open, both the men and women singles winner get rewarded $590,000 for 3 tie-break sets.. Is that fair??? I'm curious to all the input opposing women getting paid the same as the men.

How would you suggest the monies be distributed fairly? I would rather read intelligent remedies, rather then "its not fair".

What is fair?

ANY SOLUTIONS that can make the current structure better???

I would love to hear what, all the bloggers would do if they could change the system to reflect what they feel is unfair. It may change in the future.

I cringe when he does his "monitored after match analysis feedback" section during the majors. It's really not at all certain what may be said by this crazed man. He is very weird. His materials should definitely be screened with the delivery rehearsed before he gets ESPN2 into a lawsuit. That's if Martina hasn't already caused Tennis Channel Millions in punitive damages.

Like so many other tennis fans, I want to congratulate both Rafa and Roger on another thrilling Grand Slam final. Roger is still one of the greatest champions ever in tennis. And Rafa has convincingly reaffired why he is the best player in the world today. He has superior strength, athleticism, and above all grit. Rafa never succumbed to all the pressure and expectations surrounding this match. He has incredible focus and more guts than anyone else competing today. It will not be a surprise if Rafa captures all four Grand Slam Titles this year. He may very well eclipse Sampras and Federer's record.

Nice enough girl but C'MON with the delivery already. Corina - you are not in the third grade and neither are most of the people listening to you at The Tennis Channel. Pick it up girl friend. No need to repeat the same idea one sentence after the next.

Life is your oyster. Enjoy it and sound like you do. There's enough stress in the world and you'd be doing everyone a HUGE favor if you could get rid of it in your delivery.

For me I think it's better to check first on how the commentators' voices do during their work. Like the lady with Justin on that Australian Mix Doubles Finals or whatever her name is. She sounded like ROD STEWART! Hoarse voice or maybe not confident yet? But don't get over confident like Justin. It won't give any help.

Don't blame Roger

It isn't Roger Federer's fault that he gets an extra day of rest before the Australian Open final. It is the tournament director and organizers who came up with this unfair schedule. However, Rafa does have several advantages over Federer. He is five years younger. Youth can recover faster and endure more physical punishment than older players. Rafa has superior physical strength and is slightly better under pressure than Roger. Roger has one of the sharpest minds and most graceful movement ever in tennis. I'm rooting for both of them. They are both wonderful role models and superb athletes.

Top ten all-time matches?

I know these things are very subjective, but my son (JV on his HS team as a freshman and a huge tennis fan) wants to compile a set of DVDs with the greatest matches of all-time.

For Christmas, I gave him the 2007 US Open quarterfinal, Roger Federer vs Andy Roddick, which has been on his wish-list (other than the fact that Roddick is my son's favorite player, what is so special about this match?).

For his birthday last week, we gave him the 2008 Wimbledon Final, where Rafael Nadal finally beat Federer.

He's also asked for a copy of the 2001 US Open quarterfinal match between Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi, in which apparently neither player ever broke the other's serve. I have that one on order.

So, if you were putting together a collection of the greatest matches of all-time, which ones would you include? A recent SI article mentioned these two:

1980 Wimbledon (Final?) Bjorn Borg v John McEnroe
1982 (?) Davis Cup (round?) Mats Wilander v John McEnroe

Any others on your list of all-time favorites? If you have suggestions, could you also mention why you selected it?

Roddick could forego the bad behavior!

During the Australian semifinals, Roddick's behavior was disgusting and he showed no class. When things didn't go his way, he acted like an immature pre-adolescent. He talked trash and said expletives (that was uncalled for) and acted like brat who whined all the time when he didn't get his way... His gestures were silly and made him look like a fool! Doesn't he know that there are kids watching these tennis matches. If he stayed positive during his match and kept fighting one point at a time, he would've have had a better chance of winning his match against Federer. He needs to forget quickly when he loses a point, and look forward to working on the next point. He really could learn some lessons from the class-act that Federer shows irregardless of how Federer is playing. He could also be a better role model for the kids who watch these matches! As a start, Roddick really needs to apologize for his bad behavior...

Martina's off-the-wall comments

I'm not impressed with some of Navratilova's comments:

For one, to say that Dokic has "no right" to be winning matches, is such an insult to a former number 4 player in the WTA tour. Just because Dokic is playing well, Martina's off the wall comments are really uncalled for. She should clarify her comments and give credit where credit is due to players who are trying their best to win matches, not put them down! When Seles or Capriati came back from being away for a number of years, they were given credit and praise for how well they were playing and also given accolades for trying to get back in the game! Tone down your rederick Martina, and try to be kind to players who are working their butts off to win matches.

Another grand slam season has come and gone, Once again no american man brings home a grand slam title. I'm sure they will have their defenders, we are all still fans of the late great Andy Roddick, waste of talent James Blake, waste of time John Isner, Sam cheer for me I made the top 70 Querry, and Donald too cool to work hard young. Thank goodness for the Bryan brothers, at least we got a doubles team to be proud of.

Federer's mononucleosis

I didn't watch the Olympic tennis coverage. Does anybody know if they mentioned Federer's mono during that coverage? The U.S. Open is the first time I've heard anybody talking about Federer's mono. They never mentioned it on air at any time during the French or Wimbledon and I watched EVERY minute of both.

Anybody know how long the media has known about his mono? Did he not tell anybody? I knew he'd lost in Australia....then during the French he just seemed like a zombie. Then at Wimbledon...he put on a good fight but just didn't seem right. I commented to a friend last month that I half expected to hear an announcement within weeks that he had cancer or something.....something accounting for why he was so "off" and seemed so down.

Truly one of the most talent-packed USO men's semis in recent history. I'm concerned Nadal (and Murray?) may pull up with some real or imagined injury. Fed/Djokovic should be very interesting. (I admired ND for sticking to his guns about his supposedly inflammatory comment in the on-court interview after the Roddick match.) I am afraid ND may win if he does not choke/have breathing difficulties. Fed - wake up! 5 sets to take out Andreev???!! What's up with you, man?

Perhaps the only certainty will be the poor quality of the commentating. JMac was a very good interviewee during his playing days, but has made a poor commentator. While I presume he loves the game, he lacks enthusiasm. Time and again I watch an earth-moving shot from one of the players, only to see it ignored or shrugged off by JMac and co. Unbelievable. PMac is better, but still not great. As for Enberg, I have previously posted about him.

Do they ever shut up? Watching the women's matches on USA is about impossible without muting the sound. Their constant chatter which includes very little commentary on the match at hand is just plain irritating. I do hope the Tennis Channel has no plans of hiring them for the US Open in the years to come!

Justin Gimelstob ~ Must be Released Immediately

Justin Gimelstob has learned his free flowing hate from his fellow commentators. He's just too stupid to understand how he is helping to ruin the reputation of womens sports.
Gimelstob has learned from his overly judgmental co-commentators, with displays of almost bitter and sometimes weird or crazy commentary of *** Enberg, John McEnroe and Martina Navratalova. Both Gimelstob and *** Enberg should retire or be fired effectively immediately because their cantankerous gender tirades and discriminating sexist comments have been Controversial and have violated civil barriers women have fought to break. I believe ABC/CBS/Tennis Channel/Wimbledon/ESPN should offer these Gents a resignation, before the network is sued for these shocking comments. They are obvious liabilities.

Ususally, always these comments are downplayed but they cut deep in the many different culters of women who have fought tirelesy to be treated civil and with equal respect of rights. Why should Gimelstob be allowed to use public airways to spew his hurtful attacks on humans beings based on their gender. We all know that Ana Ivanavic is very beautiful but it gets a little creepy when *** Enberg and J. McEnroe start talking about her legs and other inappropriate comments during a match.

Bottom line is that theses comments are sexist and offensive. The commentators to recognize for continued outstanding work is Jason Goodall, Doug Adler, Robbie Koenig, Daren Cahill, Patrick McEnroe and Lief Shiras.

The worst of them all is Martina Navratalova, she talks more about herself and when she played than anyone else, and she sometimes curses like a sailor on National TV, I'm surprised she hasn't already been released.

What a pleasure was to watch the greatest final in the Wimbledon history.

The best thing from this final was that it was not on Tennis Channel and there was not a threat of Justin's stupid face poping out on the screen, followed by stupid and annoying comment.

Men's Semifinals

Perhaps I misunderstood something. I woke up early this morning to see a men's semi as implied on ESPN, only to find they could NOT show it at this time and are instead showing the Williams' doubles match. Nothing against the Williams', but I was very disappointed that the Rafa semi isn't being televised live. I believe Luke Jensen (sp) said they MIGHT show some of it, time permitting.Was anyone else expecting live coverage of the men's semi this a.m? (7:00 Central).
