am a huge fan especially of ladies tennis. I LUV the tennis channel and have been a subscriber for over 2 yrs now. the only time when i ever think about cancelling my subscription is when either mary or pam are commentating on a williams match. there are times when i turn the volume down and just watch the match.
pam and mary seem hessitant to use words like intelligent or smart to describe either sisters game play and are more comfortable with words like athletic or physical to describle a great play. pam and mary usually comment on a wiilliams match as if they were coaching the williams's opponant...as if they want to see the william sister lose. these two commentators are the only 2 that seem to lose thier sense of objectivity and proffesionalism as commentators when it comes to the william ladies.
I hope the tennis channel and its subscrbers will keet a watchful eye on this and take action if it doesnt improve. mary has had her microphone turned off at least once by espn when she was calling a williams match and deservedly so.
I dont know if its racism, envy or both, but pam and mary really should show more respect for these amazing young ladies who have already made a mark on history and are still going strong. i hope that pam and mary will no longer comment on the williams matches with this sense of what seems to be jealousy and/dislike. the williams girls have done more in thier still vibrant tennis lives than either mary or pam have done in thier careers decades ago when they were moderatly relevant to the ladies tennis game.

I agree with! Mary Jo Fernandez (the man looking woman), Pam Shriver and Mary Carrillo with their back door compliments and negative slants against the William sisters. Although they (female commentators) might find their comments objectionable, I find them very opinionated and sometimes not warranted, especially when the comments are directed negatively to the William sisters outside interest. For Venus and Serena to have outside hobbies and interest and still play at the top of the games and win titles in the grand slams is very commendable! When compared to other players who have practiced and played all year and still not win or advance as a top ten player! I am an avid tennis watcher, since the beginning of the William sisters professional career and I find the female commentator(s) remarks disheartening and shows a blatant disregard for two very outstanding females who does not seem to fit the stereo-typed mold Pam, Mary, Mary Jo and Martina have cut out for them!
P.S: Outside of Martina, I have never heard or seen any of these women play or hold as many individual titles as the William sisters! To voice sometimes such outright dislike for the women. I now understand why the sisters seem so guarded with their comments.
Neither Mary Carrillo or Pam Shriver are employed by The Tennis Channel, so no action is needed by TTC. They both work for ESPN/ESPN2 and its CBS during Wimbledon. However, no matter how many Slams Serena wins Mary & Pam wont be satisfied. I agree, all the comments they make regarding more Serena than Venus is biased & suspect as negative. When Belgians Justine Henin and Kim Clisters retired, they just wrote if off as they want families and to pursue other interest with respectfull comments to follow. However, the Williams sister's can never do enough, to please these flip flop commentators. Even after they have won 24 Gram Slam titles combined in Singles/Doubles & $43 million. Never Enough!!!!!!!!!!!!
another recent example of this was ms. carilos coverage of the first slam of this year, the austrailian, won in lest than an hour by serena 6-0 ,6-3. ms. carilos contentious commentary deminished what should have been a very historic moment for people that love to watch great tennis players in action. carilos repeated and insistant inferences that serena doesnt work as hard and is not as focused as the top male players was condesending and rude.
ms. carilo then part her foot further into her mouth by suggesting what she ( ms carilo) wants for the william girls as if these two hall of fame players need her advice!. Ms carilo and Ms. shriver are medocre "commentators"... not a parent, not a coah to these 2 historic women. In the recent 2009 Austrailia open, carilis co-commentator, Chris fowler, had to reel her in serval times when she challenged serenas work ethic, level of commitment and focus. I mean for goodness sakes 6-0,6-3 in in less than an hour in a major slam??, show some respect!
Ms Carilo commentary on the williams girls really makes watching these great young ladies less enjoyable and she should be removed from calling thier matches.

It appears to me that every tv channel that carries tennis when the William sisters are playing seem to think the sun sets in their as_ and everyone knows Serena has enough as_ for a whole lot of sun. Furthermore, why do you think they always seem to have some reason to pull out of tournaments for some reason or another, except for the slams?
It's really interesting to read all of the cantankerous comments made on this message board as a whole. I had no idea so many people hated Serena & Venus.. I have also ready very disturbing comments made about Lindsey Davenport. It's is strange to hear Americans post cyber trash in reference to the top players of usa womens tennis. I thought at 1st, it was just a racial thing, but now that Serena & Venus have consistently excelled while what so many WTA women have failed, I now think it is more that they're just hated for dominating tennis in their era. As far as Mary Carrilo, I never realized how much she hated Serena until the time Serena made that unbelievable run to win Australia in 07. Carrillo was continusally calling her overwieght and out of shape the entire time, which many others were doing as well. But what took the cake is when Serena was interviewed by Mary Joe Fernandez immediately after she won the 07 Australian open, instead of Mary Joe just being happy she won, she kept asking her "why didn't you do more to help your game, Serena couldn't believe it, she replied with a smile "Mary, can you just be happy for me, I just won my 8th Grand Slam title"... Then Mary snapped out of her Williams hating trance and gestured "well you got me there". After that I was convinced that, its not because they're African American, people just hate them because they are so athletically gifted.
