Yeah!!! Mac Rules!!!!!  though he can sometimes slip with an accidentaly poor manered remark.  i once heard him slip up and say something that was borderline racist... but still at least he's not a bore and really pays attention to the game.

the women announcers are the absoulute worst... they should all be banned!!!!  except martina navratilova... she's good

I don't know if this is the commentator who covered the Nadal/Tsonga match.  There were two guys and I absolutely could not stand listening to them.  They were immature and rude.  I almost turned it off because of them.  I have been watching tennis for many, many years and I have never heard such commentating- horrible.  I was literally saying "shut up" out loud hoping they would hear me.

Oh yes, the commentator for the Nadal Tsonga match was so bad I had to search google today to see who was talking about it! I caught a glimpse of the commentator names at the bottom of the screen, but only caught one of the two which was Gimbelstob (sp?). I don't know if it was him last night commenting "Tender Vittles" or "Nadal is getting beaten like a red-headed step-child", but I was stunned. I have never heard anything like this. I was yelling Shut Up! at the TV also!!

I can't say I'm bothered by any announcers in particular, and in fact
have been liking the coverage for the most part. My only complaint,
and I think it's a big one, is the angle the announcers (and media) are
taking on the finals. Talk of "glamour" and "pretty" and how much the
match is (was) a "photographer's dream" is disrespectful and disappointing.
Both these women have time to play up the "glamourous" sides of themselves
if they choose to do so, but discussion of that during their match is inappropriate and diminishes the strides made in women's tennis.

Can you imagine if something similar was said about the men's game?
"It's a final match between two of the most handsome studs on the tour!"
That would never happen. Leave that discussion for people to have around
their home television sets (I'm not above comments like those, especially when Rafa is playing), but leave it off the match commentary.

Bud Collins has been so fun to listen to, and I have really enjoyed watching
the Open. But keep the sexist comments off the air.

everytime i watch Rafa match commentated by Jason Goodall, i want to break my PC. why is it that he ALWAYS and i mean ALWAYS talks about how to beat Rafa. he might say that it compliment to Rafa, for being so good but why doesn't he do that with Roger or any other player. Everytime Rafa's opponent misses a shot its a "pity". Why doesn't he have strategies for his fav. Andy Murray's opponents. Either he should stop doing it or give advice to every "underdog". i wish i knew who to write about this issue. HEY JAson if there's a chance that you might read this. Please do us a HUGE fav. and SHUT UP about "how to beat Rafa" thank you.

We LOVE and look forward to listening to Jason Goodall.   What a breath of fresh air, finally!! Listening to American tennis commentary for 20+ years, I find Jason's voice soothing, his comments about players-namely Fed and Rafa balanced and to the point.   Jason gets accused of being too critical of Fed, or too pro Nadal.  I disagree because he critiques everyone, and he sounds fair towards not only those 2 players but all the others.  He has talks about tennis, and sticks to the game itself, has a witty, dry sense of humor and gets tennis.   Who cares if he was ranked 267?   Was *** enberg anything in Tennis, what about Brian Weber?   Come on, the American commentators are awful AND berate players and take sides.   They are not saints either. Moronic commentary as uttered by Mc Enroe, Shiras, Enberg, Weber, Adams, Morariu, McKay and company are plain awful and a complete joke.   They talk about their wives, kids, baseball, football analogies, talk over the point and relentless talk, talk talk.   Goodall is head and shoulders above these babbling talking heads who are happier pontificating about their lives than commenting about a tennis match. Goodall and his partner are the best things that have happened to Tennis in a long time.   As in life, good things aren't meant for everyone.

I think the commentaries of Jason and Robbie are far superior to our US counterparts..such as Johnny Mac....although Jim Courier is excellent. Jason and Robbie continually demonstrate their insight into the players' skills and the complexities of the game.

Barry McKay is irritating. He doesn't seem to even be listening to Tracy or Lindsay. Very often, he repeats what was just said by one of them. WORSE, however, is that ALL 3 are talking during the points. OMG! This is driving us nuts. The ATP Championships in Paris last week and a half were AWESOME to watch: the commentators were quiet during points and not chatting away about trivial stuff during points. Tracy Austin is lousy and Lindsay should just play tennis.......

Tell the American commentators to shut it during points. The European coverage if far superior.

Lindsay doesn't play tennis. It's a matter of taste, tho' most of us agree that Lindsay, McKay, Enberg suck. I find Mac entertaining. There's not comparison to say the Europeans as a group are better (and I think one of the fellow we've addressed is S. African). In any case, the folks making decisions pay little if any attention to comments.

Right..Enberg and McKay should be put out to pasture....I do enjoy Lindsay's commentary and insights! There is way too much chatting during the points with the WTA!! I think the Brit commentators rule!Love their enthusiasm when the players hit a winner! .....one of the guys has a New Zealand accent.

Not only is Goodall unbearable to listen to but Robbie Koenig runs a close second! Would it be so difficult for the TC to find commentators that sound a lot less stilted and "British" with their comments and slangit all sounds ridiclous! you have to stop and try to gifure out what the heck they are talking about...not to mention that a lot of their remarks about women are quite sexist!

Not everyone is so politically correct that they pretend ATP and WTA folks are equivalent athletes.

Hmm...Interesting posts about the commentating. I don't know... I can't say I've had a commentator stand out as really good or really bad. I guess I am so focused on the tennis that I don't put a lot of stock into what the commentators are saying. I remember the match a lot more than what was said about it. I didn't get a chance to see the Nadal-Tsonga match live. I only saw the highlights. But I read from more than one source even outside of this board that the commentating was bad. A few moments of NO commentary, between the points....just silence...is a great sound too. :)
